Electronics Cleaning

Electronics are Everywhere And Electronics Cleaning is BIG Business

An unavoidable fact about our modern world is that electronics surround us. Regardless if it’s in the form of personal computers, cell phones, tablets, game consoles, electrical appliances, tools, machinery, toys, etc., electronics are everywhere.

Another unavoidable fact is that, with use, electronics get very dirty. Dirt and other contaminants are more than an inconvenience. If not cleaned properly, dirt on electronic components can cause the device to:

  • Overheat and start fires.
  • Short circuit and injure people.
  • Malfunction causing loss of valuable data.
  • Spread disease through the use of infected keyboards, cell phones, touch screens and other devices.

In order to protect users, preserve data and keep society running smoothly, it’s very important for electronics of all types to not just be regularly cleaned, but cleaned thoroughly.

But How Do You Thoroughly Clean Electronics?

Most people simply wipe the outside of the device or use a vacuum to suck (or compressed air to blow) away dust. Others are using spray washers with cleaning solution and deionized water. Unfortunately, these methods are simply not enough as dirt is left in the tiny crevices under buttons, around computer chips, between wires and other components. Additionally, these methods only clean what is easily visible which is just a small fraction of what needs to be cleaned, and do little to eliminate oils, viruses and bacteria, etc.

Ultrasonics, the Only Way to Thoroughly Clean Electronics

There is only one way to ensure that electronic devices and components are thoroughly cleaned, decontaminated and ready to be returned to service; and that way is with Morantz Ultrasonics.

With Morantz Ultrasonics, dirt, grease, bacteria, soot and any other contaminants are completely removed from the item with no loss of performance. In fact, with proper training, most items can be cleaned in less than two minutes and returned to service as soon as drying is complete.

Yes, You CAN Clean Electronics in Water!

You may have noticed that the items in the photos above are wet and have been cleaned in an Ultrasonic water bath. The gentle cleaning action of Ultrasonics, combined with proper training and drying, water will NOT damage electronics.

This is worth repeating; with proper training and drying, water will NOT damage electronics (the ‘secret’ is in the drying process using our Drye-Rite Drying Cabinets and Drye-Rite-XL Drying Rooms that our clients learn about during training. To learn about our FREE Training, Click Here).

How Can You Clean Electronics in Water?

We’ve all been told to never put electronics in water. This is certainly true of any electronic device that’s still plugged in, but for electronics that are not plugged-in, cleaning them with water is not a problem… if you clean and dry them correctly.

And electronics cleaning, done correctly, is big business.

Folklore About Electronics Cleaning

The warnings about electronics and water come from our grandparents and great grandparents. Back when they were young, many of them were getting electronic appliances for the first time. Unfortunately, at the time, they had little knowledge of or experience with electronics. Also, there were few if any safety codes overseeing how they were made and used. As a result, electronics were often dangerous to use and getting shocked was a common occurrence. Considering their experience, it’s understandable that our grandparents, great grandparents and even our parents have been so persistent in their warnings.

The Truth is NOT Shocking!

Fast forward to the 1950s and electronic component are being manufactured in vast quantities. However, manufacturing electronics was often a dirty job; it was quite common for microscopic metallic debris to short out the component when  powered up or for components to be contaminated with dangerous chemical residues. This required the components to be thoroughly cleaned before they could be packaged and shipped. Manufacturers needed a fast and economical way to clean those parts. After significant research, they discovered that the only way to guarantee a thorough cleaning was with Ultrasonics. In fact, cleaning electronics with Ultrasonics became so widely accepted that in 1959 Electronics World Magazine devoted a 5 page cover story to cleaning electronics with Ultrasonics (click here to download .pdf).

Electronics Cleaning is BIG Business (with Huge Profit Potential)

Cleaning a large screen television with Morantz Ultrasonics

Considering how electronics have become such an important part of our daily lives, the opportunities for Electronics Cleaning with Ultrasonics are truly massive. While it’s up to you to set your own rates for cleaning electronics, rates are usually established relative to the replacement value of the item and the quantity being cleaned.

For example, a television covered in soot from a fire may cost a minimum of $300 to replace. This is the amount that the insurance company expects to pay to reimburse the owner. With Ultrasonics, your fee to clean this TV could be 1/3 to 1/2 of the replacement value, i.e. $100 – $150 (note that this is where your estimate could start as your actual fee can be influenced by many factors).

Regardless the fee, this pricing represents both a substantial savings for the insurance company and a substantial profit for you.
